It has truly a blessing to really be delighting in the LORD's Word. After recently being given a King James Bible I decided to start using it rather than the NIV I have always used. I love it!! That's right I truly have fallen in love with the King James version. I know many are intimidated by the King James version but it has been such a blessing to me to begin using this version. For one the words are said in a different way which gives fresh breath to passages I have read over an over in the past. Secondly, there are often words that I don't know the meaning of and this causes me to get out a dictionary and look up the words. In taking the time to do this I am grasping the passage in a new and deeper way.
I know people often shudder at the thought of reading all the "thees", "thous" and "thys" but it actually sheds some new light on some of the verses. These days we just say "you" but back then they were more specific. "Thee" "thou" and "thy" are singular where as "ye" is plural. In the NIV it simply says "you", so you miss out on realizing in many passages whether the speaker is speaking to that one person or refering to a group of people. Personally, I also have found the King James style to simply be more beautiful.

I grew up reading/memorizing the KJV-it is a beautiful literal version. I don't find the "thee"s and "thou"s a difficulty and always wondered why some found it so hard to follow.
ReplyDeleteI began reading the NASB in college, and now use the ESV. The thing I miss most is that the pronouns referring to God are not capitalized. As you said, that helps the reader know immediately who the pronoun is referring to. I've also thought that it helps us(in our oh-so-casual)society to remember that God is holy. While we can approach Him with boldness through our Savior, we do well to remember He is a GREAT and MIGHTY GOD!
